Chaos as Liberal House leader tables fiscal update without Trudeau or Freeland

On Dec. 16, Government House Leader Karina Gould tabled the Liberal government’s fall economic statement instead of Chrystia Freeland, who resigned as finance minister earlier in the day. Gould did not deliver the customary speech, and the tabling was criticized by opposition MPs for breaching protocol. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Freeland were not in the House of Commons at the time.
