Netanyahu: Israeli strikes seek to hurt Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, military

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says on June 13, 2025 the country launched Operation Rising Lion, striking key Iranian nuclear and missile sites overnight. In a recorded statement, Netanyahu called the mission essential to stop what he described as a ‘clear and present danger’ to Israel’s survival. Israel targeted Iranian scientists working on a nuclear bomb, its ballistic missile program and its Nantanz uranium enrichment facility, in an operation that would continue for days, he said. Netanyahu warned Iran is months away from building a nuclear bomb and vowed the operation would continue until the threat is eliminated. Israel said it was also targeting Iranian commanders and missile factories, and declared a state of emergency in anticipation of retaliatory missile and drone strikes by Tehran. Israeli army spokesman Effie Defrin said the country has ‘no choice’ because ‘we are operating against an imminent and existential threat.
